PAPER WALL TELLS STORIES OF THOSE WHO DIDN'T RETURN FROM VIETNAM

Since I've been in elected office, I've been privileged to be invited to participate in many events honoring the military veterans in our community. But I have to say, this one touches my heart in a special way.

Thirty-nine years ago the Paris Peace Talks brought an end to the Vietnam War. For many people in our community, the memories of those years remain strong. Over 165,000 Wisconsinites were deployed - mostly ordinary people placed in extraordinary circumstances, who did the best they could to make their country proud. And it can't be said often enough that we are proud and grateful to all who serve our country in uniform.

Remembering requires more than just a name, and the emotional power of the Paper Wall is in the stories it brings us of the 1,244 soldiers who did not return to us from Vietnam. Through the dedicated work of volunteers, the fallen are brought back to us in a unique and compelling way. We recognize them as our brothers, sisters, sons and daughters, best friends, and beloved partners.

I have no doubt that reading these stories will be a memorable experience for many people in our community.

The Menasha Public Library is proud to be the second library to host the exhibit opening at 4 pm on Thursday, January 19th until 8 pm.
